Blog Challenge #1 - Googie Mobile

I'm going to make a googie hanging mobile. I will turn it into a big project like I seem to be doing, but I wanted to take this time to issue a challenge to any readers who stumble across this. I like having other people involved in creative stuff.

A hanging mobile is a kinetic sculpture that focuses on balance. Here's the wiki entry on it: Mobile (sculpture).

Before anyone runs off and starts putting something together, I wanted to go over some of the key elements of the Googie style. First off, the googie style is based off of atomic themes (atoms, mushroom clouds, etc), caveman themes (think Flintstones, rock forms), space themes (think Jetsons, starbursts, rockets, globes, etc), tiki/polynesian themes (tiki, volcano, etc), science themes (plants, amoebas, etc), and geometric designs (diamonds, ovals, boomerang, etc). Wood, glass, metal, and plastic are usually associated with googie pieces, but you don't have to stick to that if you don't need/want to.
