Rockabilly Project #1 - Hair Flowers

This is a tutorial on how to make hair flowers, a rockabilly staple.  I didn't think I'd be into hair flowers, but since going to Viva Las Vegas I found that I like putting shit in my hair - like flowers.  This is super easy and fairly cheap, depending on the flowers you buy.

To the right you'll see me with a pink flower in my hair.  This is my strip of photos from the photo booth from this year's Viva Las Vegas.  Totally awesome event.  I will be back for Viva Las Vegas 17 next year.

What you'll need:
  • Glue gun + glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Flowers, medium or large (I'm using 4" dia. flowers)
  • Plain hair clips

My supplies

Plug in your glue gun to warm it up.  Cut off the stems of your flowers as close to the base as you can, so its relatively flat.

Your hair clip is going to be placed on the flower bent-end down.  The flat end goes against your head.

Measure it against your flower.

Apply a good size gob of glue from the stem down to the petals.

Yep, that's me applying some glue.
Hold the clip open and press the bent end into the glue.

Hold the clip open while it dries.  Blow on it.  Give it a minute.  Once its cool to the touch, you can let go.

Hair flowers on my fingers for your viewing pleasure.

From the top.  A successful hair flower will hide the clip that its on.
