5 Movies For Winter Storm Nights

Last night we had quite a little stormy winter night with some wild winds and blowing snow.  In case you've missed it, I live in the interior of Alaska.  We don't usually have much wind here.  Snow and cold weather?  Yes, definitely.  Anyway, I wanted to post my top 5 choices for those winter stormy nights - in no particular order.

1. The Shining (1980) director Stanley Kubrick
I don't really care what anyone says about this not being like the book.  I love the book.  I also like Stanley Kubrick and Jack Nicholson.  This is one of my favorite movies of all time.

2. Snowbeast (1977) director Herb Wallerstein
This movie is so campy, but I like it.  Its about a ski resort being terrorized by a snow beast!  It also happens to star Bo Svenson, Yvette Mimieux, and Sylvia Sidney (she played Juno in 'Beetlejuice').  I always get a kick out of this film.

3. Dreamcatcher (2003) director Lawrence Kasdan
This is a Stephen King film about a group of friends who are hanging out at a cabin in the winter...then shit starts to happen - alien invasion to be precise.

4. The Thing (1982) director John Carpenter
What better film to watch when the wind is whipping around and snow is flying sideways then The Thing?  It takes place down in Antarctica.  A group of researchers/scientists are drilling and find some---THING!

5. The Wolfman (2010) director Joe Johnston
This is a great under-rated film.  I love how simple it is compared to other modern werewolf movies.  As a bonus it has some AWESOME actors in it.  I like the isolationism that gets expressed in this film.

What do you like to watch during a stormy winter night?
