Shorts for Summer Style

Summer is coming up and its time to make sure you have shorts for the season.

For my fellow sewing-aficionados - Shorts!  I like using these two patterns to create two different style of retro shorts, both high-waisted.  Simply shorten the legs to cut for shorts.  Butterick for standard shorts.  Folkwear for Land Girl Shorts.

My biggest problem is chub-rub.  I'm curvy (not fat, though I wouldn't mind going down a pant size) and even at a size 4 (a few years ago) I had chub-rub going on.  I tend to add a little to the butt-area for the Butterick pattern.  A little can go a long way, so if you decide to give this a try - don't over do it.

For the land girl shorts, I suggest making your shorts about knee length and then putting them on in order to figure out what length you really want them.  You can trim the bottom most of the way and then roll the hem - or you can trim and hem.  Its up to you.  These shorts offer a more relaxed, baggy option.

Burda actually offers a pattern for high-waisted shorts, but I have not yet tried it.  Have you tried it?  What do you think about it?
