Christmas Season

The Christmas Season is upon us now that Thanksgiving has passed.  I love getting gifts for people and the cooking and the baking.  Our little group of Fairbanks Rockabilly folks should be putting together a Christmas party soon.  We had one last year and it was wonderful!

I was thinking about party themes earlier and here are a few ideas I had:
  • White Christmas - Everyone wears white.
  • Silver & Gold - Everyone wears silver and/or gold.
  • Candy & Presents - Everyone wears vintage fashions with candy and/or presents as the theme.
  • Vintage Cards - We recreate an outfit based on an old Christmas card.
I'm guessing these won't fly with everyone. With the severe lack of people for my Halloween party, I will help plan the Christmas party, but refuse to host it.  Apparently RSVPing doesn't mean what it used to.

I will be taking part in the 2nd Annual Vintage Secret Santa, hosted by Chronically Vintage!  Last year was fun and I encourage my readers to give it a go!

Where Has My Motivation Gone?

I seem to have lost my motivation for working out - for the most part.  It probably doesn't help that it's -20F today, though I did guilt myself out of bed this morning.  I put on my gym stuff, pressed the autostart on my key fob, and sucked down some coffee.  Low and behold - my truck did not start with the autostart.  GRRRRR!

I did crossfit for a year and I liked it, but my size never changed.  I put a lot of effort into working out and trying to be healthy, but I never reached the point where I had to buy new pants.  It was pretty disappointing.

I thought: I know.  The last time I dropped size, I was running 5 days a week.  I'll just do that.

I really hate running.

When I go to the gym and run (using an elliptical) I usually average about a 7 minute mile and I generally run for 20-25 minutes.  It's not that I cannot run - obviously - I just think that it's boring.

I'm trying to regroup and regain some motivation.  I'm going to get a new jar of thermogenic powder and I'll make some paleo granola tonight. That should help me out.   (Let me just say that I workout first thing in the morning.  Planet Fitness, here, opens at 5am and that's when I'm there.)

Exercise That I Like

  • Hiking
  • Running up and around Powell Butte in Portland, OR
  • Lifting & strength training
  • Kickboxing & Boxing
I'm terrible with working out at my house.  There's always something else that I would rather do at home.

I know I have a handful of readers out there.  What motivates you?  Can you pass along some encouragement?  I think I need it.

Fish Pie

Fish Pie
Makes 2

1/2 cup Mashed Potato or Mashed Taro (paleo option)
1 filet Tilapia
10-12 medium Shrimp
1 TBSP Butter
1/2 tsp Garlic
Parsley
1/2 cup Milk
1/2 cup Shredded Cheese
12 stalks Asparagus
Pie Crust

1. Thaw the tilapia and shrimp, then cook in a frying pan.  Use a spatula to flake the tilapia.  As soon as it is all cooked, cut your shrimp into chunks.
2. In a bowl, mix together your mashed potato (or taro), seafood, butter, garlic, parlsey, milk, and cheese.
3. Cut the asparagus into pieces and add into your potato-seafood mixture.
4. Place your mixture into two ramekins.
5. Unroll and cut out circles of the pie crust to cover your ramekins.
6. Bake your fish pies at 350F for 35-40 minutes or until crust is golden brown.

Lose Weight, Write Book

November is when NaNoWriMo takes place.  NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month.  The idea is to write a novel in 30 days.  While that may seem a little daunting, a novel is defined as 50K+ words.  The first Harry Potter novel was roughly 73K words, just to give you some perspective.

I tend to write 1000-3500 words a day when I'm on a project, unless it's the weekend.  Weekends I can knock out like 5000-7500 words a day, no problem.  I'm currently sitting around 15K words for my book and I'm only gracing chapter 3 at this point.

If you are working on your own NaNoWriMo project, let me know.  I'll be your writing buddy!  You can find me HERE.

I do get pretty...well I'm concentrating.  I've learned that quoting Jack (see below) gets you in big trouble, even though he is absolutely correct.

Since I'm planning on being fairly sedentary for the next month, I am planning on going to the gym more frequently in the mornings and eating healthier.  This is a great season for it too.  There's lots of pumpkin around and nuts.  I have a couple pounds of frozen cherries.  It will be great.  I've started out by changing my lunch primarily to chopped salad.  I'm really liking them.  Actually, my favorite is the Bacon Bleu - it's extra awesome if you add in a diced apple or pear.
