Where Has My Motivation Gone?

I seem to have lost my motivation for working out - for the most part.  It probably doesn't help that it's -20F today, though I did guilt myself out of bed this morning.  I put on my gym stuff, pressed the autostart on my key fob, and sucked down some coffee.  Low and behold - my truck did not start with the autostart.  GRRRRR!

I did crossfit for a year and I liked it, but my size never changed.  I put a lot of effort into working out and trying to be healthy, but I never reached the point where I had to buy new pants.  It was pretty disappointing.

I thought: I know.  The last time I dropped size, I was running 5 days a week.  I'll just do that.

I really hate running.

When I go to the gym and run (using an elliptical) I usually average about a 7 minute mile and I generally run for 20-25 minutes.  It's not that I cannot run - obviously - I just think that it's boring.

I'm trying to regroup and regain some motivation.  I'm going to get a new jar of thermogenic powder and I'll make some paleo granola tonight. That should help me out.   (Let me just say that I workout first thing in the morning.  Planet Fitness, here, opens at 5am and that's when I'm there.)

I'm terrible with working out at my house.  There's always something else that I would rather do at home.

I know I have a handful of readers out there.  What motivates you?  Can you pass along some encouragement?  I think I need it.


  1. My favorite phrase is "Nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels." It doesn't always work, but it's decent.A good habit for me is taking ZMA. It's probably only a mild success as a supplement, but the idea that at bedtime I need to have a mostly empty stomach so I can take it with a glass of water is a good guiding light. It really prevents evening snacking, which is a big problem for me.

    1. I have a handful of vitamins and supplements that I take. Stuff specifically for when I work out is GNC thermogenic powder (before and after the workout), L-Glutamine, and (if I'm lifting) Creatine powder. Otherwise it's a multi-vitamin, Brain Awake (Irwin Naturals), and chlorophyll. I'll have to look up ZMA since I'm not familiar with it. I'm not much of a snacker, in fact my problem is usually the opposite - not eating enough.

  2. You can't go wrong with cardio on an empty stomach! I'm able to swing that as I commute to work here in Anchorage via bike. 4 miles with a shower and oatmeal at the destination.
